|Silver and Bronze at the Finn World Championship|
This year’s Finn world championship took place in Takapuna, New Zealand. Less then a year before next Olympic games all the best sailors were present and wanted to test their level of preparation before the biggest event in Brazil next year.
After a really difficult regatta with many ups and downs for every sailor due to changing weather conditions, we at the Sandiline headquarters could not be happier to see the final results and be prouder of our sailors. Sandiliners have won 2 medals - French Jonathan Lobert won silver and Vasilij Žbogar won bronze. These are the first medals from the world championships for both of them and we share their happiness after achieving this long-awaited medals. Unsurprisingly for most, the event was won by Brit Giles Scott.
Lobert commented: “In the end I finished second to Giles and I am very pleased with that because I have been three times on the podium before the medal race and I lost it, so this time I'm very happy to secure the silver.”
He continued: We had a really nice regatta. Of course there were many ups and downs for many of the sailors, apart from Giles who is definitely ahead of the game. It will be hard to catch him in any regatta, especially at the Olympics. But we try to move forward. He has another level of sailing in the Finn so everyone is now trying to push hard to try and catch him. For sure 10-15 sailors are trying to beat him. He's unbeatable, but anything can happen at the Olympics. Everybody will be really ready for it and we'll see what happens.”
Another sandiliner Estonian Deniss Karpak finished the Championship with a great feelings, as he qualified to the Olympic games:
And it’s not just our very own athletes that wear sandiline gear and achieved their goals. There were many. And as always, the majority of the fleet is wearing the gear that the best sailors are wearing - Sandiline. We feel the year 2016 is gonna be extraordinary for Team Sandiline.
