Light in tricky conditions on Finn Gold Cup

1150312 10151633930407634 15628450 nTallinn, Estonia hosted world's best finn sailors on one of the most prestigious sailing events being held every year. Weather conditions were extremely tricky, which led to very inconstant results of all sailors, including top 3. Furthermore, the wind hasn't shown 2 days in a row during the event.

Yet it is always true that on such big and long events, the best in given circumstances wins. The winner of the Finn Gold Cup unexpectedly became Brazilian Jorge Zarif, which became the Junior champion as well. Second was British Edward Wright and third Dutch Pieter Jan Postma.

For our sandiliners the event didn't go as the wished, leaving Jonathan Lobert on 5 th place, european champion Vasilij Žbogar on 13th, Deniss Karpak on 14th and Ivan Kljakovič Gašpič - Bambi on 15th place.

Now let us invite you to take a look at the picture gallery from the championship, as the view to the "sandiline" fleet was really awesome. :) Oh, here is the link: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Finn-Class/110408332633?id=110408332633&sk=photos_stream

Vasilij Žbogar became European Finn Champion

994548 10151569678412634 1064859448 nVasilij Žbogar, Slovene, that has been sailing with our gear, since the very beginning, became European Finn Champion in Warnemünde, Germany, where this year's European Champion took place.

It's been extremely difficult event for everybody, as the sailing conditions weren't very stable - sailors managed to finish just 8 races. Yet Vasilij was almost unbeatable during the whole event and was leading from the first racing day on, although he had big problems with his sailing equipment - broken boom and problems with main sail hoist. This is his 2nd such title (in 2003 he won Laser EC in Split, Croatia).

He told us: after the race“The week was quite hard but I like these sort of conditions, and I took advantage of it and sailed really conservative and good races all the time. Straight from the beginning I was trying to be conservative and not make big mistakes and that paid off in the beginning of the regatta and I just continued like that. My boat speed was really good so I didn't want to mess around too much, and looking back the worst first mark rounding was fourth place so that was extremely good and I am very proud of that.”

It wasn't just Vasilij from SandiLine team that was very successful on this event. Ivan Kljakovič Gašpič and Jonathan Lobert were both sailing really well, yet they both got a BFD in the last race, which disabled them to be on the podium and finished 6th and 8th overall.

Finn sailors are now slowly moving to Tallin, Estonia, where World Champion will take place in the end of August.
